The Sunshine Blogger Award

Wednesday marked my first blogger milestone, as it were. I signed into Twitter during my lunch and discovered that the lovely Ruth (aka. ThatAutisticFitChick) had nominated me for the Sunshine Blogger Award. Ruth writes a fantastic food and fitness blog, that also tackles dealing with the challenges of living with autism. She offers insight into reaching your fitness goals, some tasty recipes (my favourite is the lemon and ginger protein cheesecake!), and her own experience in dealing with autism on a daily basis. Go check her blog out!

Being nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award put a smile on my face this week. I was struggling at work in terms of general motivation, and to be honest I was struggling to come up with a fresh idea for my next post. However, being nominated has made me feel for the first time that I’m making my way into the blogging community and that what I’m doing is working, and that has given me a huge boost. So, a big thank you to Ruth for her nomination.

So, what is the Sunshine Blogger Award? It’s a peer recognition award that is passed around the blogging community, and it’s given to those who inspire creativity and positivity. It’s a great way to discover new blogs, and it’s also perfect for giving bloggers some appreciation. You could say it’s given to those whose blogs provide you with a little ray of sunshine!

The Rules

  1. Thank the person who nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
  2. Answer their questions.
  3. Nominate 11 other bloggers and ask them 11 new questions.
  4. Notify the nominees about it by commenting on one of their blog posts.
  5. List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo on your post.

Questions

Tell me something about yourself that isn’t common knowledge (it doesn’t have to be deep and personal, it can be a popular food or a band you dislike).

I still occasionally watch 90s cartoons. It’s great for watching when you’re hungover or you just generally want to watch something comforting that doesn’t require much brain power. Cow and Chicken is my absolute favourite. It’s surprising how many of the jokes you definitely wouldn’t get away with in kids’ TV these days.

What would be your ideal day out?

A trip to a cat café, maybe a little shopping, followed by dinner at a posh restaurant. Obviously with a few cocktails thrown in!

What historical figure would you like to have afternoon tea with?

Probably Sigmund Freud. A bit of free psychoanalysis with a few scones thrown in – why not?

What question would you want to ask them?

I’d quite like to hear is take on why I’m the way I am. I don’t particularly agree with all of his theories but I’d be interested to hear what he has to say about it all.

Do you prefer to swim in a pool or in the sea?

I don’t really swim, I just tend to bob along like a puppy. I guess for that reason I’d probably go for a pool. It’s generally warmer and there’s much less chance of drowning. I almost drowned in the sea a couple of years ago – my husband and I were swimming (ish) and I got caught by a wave. It genuinely scared the crap out of me so I refuse to go that deep into the sea again.

Would you rather stay in a 5* hotel or a treehouse that had indoor plumbing?

Definitely a 5* hotel. As much as I can get on board with a treehouse having indoor plumbing, I think I just love luxury that bit too much. Room service, a mini bar and your room cleaned for you every day? YAAAASS.

What fictional character would you like to be and why?

I’ve been mulling this question over! My first instinct generally went to Meredith Grey from Grey’s Anatomy. I love how despite everything she goes through, she’s still a badass surgeon and she lets nothing stand in her way. Obviously I have no desire to become a surgeon, or go through the horrific events she’s endured, but if I could have even a smidge of her mental strength, I’d be happy.

Would you change your past even if you knew it meant you wouldn’t be the person you are today?

I’ve toyed with this question quite a bit over the years. There’s definitely things I wish I’d done differently in terms of my education and career choices, but had I not gone for them I may not have certain people in my life. For example, if I hadn’t gone to university I may not have stayed together with my boyfriend, who is now my husband. Had I not worked in a job I hated, I would never have met my best friend, who I can’t imagine life without. With that in mind, I definitely wouldn’t change a thing.

What is the best meal you ever had?

Definitely my wedding breakfast. Obviously the context plays a big role here, but it was the most amazing meal. I was lucky enough to eat it twice (we had a menu tasting before the day) and I’d happily eat it again given the choice. We had chicken and bacon salad to start, followed by a “blade of beef” with horseradish mash and red wine jous. Dreamy AF. My favourite course though, was without a doubt the dessert: sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream.

What are you deeply passionate about?

Animal welfare is a big one for me. I’ve always been an animal lover and the fact there’s still so many animals out there being mistreated is so upsetting. How someone can hurt an innocent little creature is beyond me. I’m also passionate about mental health and the perceptions of it. I’m fed up of hearing “I have that too” whenever I tell someone I have OCD. No you don’t, love.

Three wishes…standard genie rules. Go!

At this present time:

  1. For my husband and I to move into our dream house, wherever that may be.
  2. To become a successful writer.
  3. To be cured of my OCD and anxiety once and for all.

My Nominations

This is a bit that I struggled with, as I’m still fairly new to the blogging community. Generally if I picked 11 bloggers to nominate, I’d be hurriedly searching for more to add to my list without actually reading any properly. My Questions

  1. Why did you get into blogging?
  2. What music are you currently into?
  3. Who do you look up to the most?
  4. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
  5. What was the best holiday you’ve ever been on?
  6. What are you most proud of?

A  big thank you again to Ruth who nominated me for The Sunshine Blogger Award. It means a lot to know that what I’m writing is being read and that it’s enjoyed, and it’s given me a boost and the encouragement to keep writing!

Congratulations and thank you for the nomination! (It might take me a while to post back.)

Your answers crack me up. If you ever have scones with Sigmund, let me know, I’d like to join you! 😊

Oh, I’d love to have the strength Meredith has (at least in later seasons… being a surgeon would be cool too.

Oh gawd the subtext in 90s cartoons when you rewatch them as an adult is hilarious! I remember watching Fireman Sam as a teen with my foster nephew and just like, the stereotypes with the single mum (Norman’s mum) etc were just something that you wouldn’t get today.

I love the idea of afternoon tea with Freud! And sticky toffee pudding with vanilla icecream is the bomb!

So glad to have given you some sunshine and made you feel a part of the blogging community ❤
