So last week I had the pleasure of being nominated for my second Sunshine Blogger Award and later on in the week I was nominated for my third! The first one came from the wonderful Charlotte from Time to Talk, a fantastic blog that aims to take down the stigma surrounding mental health issues, and it’s filled with really informative posts on a range of different mental health conditions. My next nomination came from the lovely Ami from Undercover Superhero, who writes openly about living with disabilities and her recovery from illness, and along with that you can also read about her upcoming superhero themed wedding! Be sure to stop by and take a look at both of their blogs!
As I’ve already mentioned, this is the second time that I’ve been nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award (you can read my last post here), and I am so grateful to be writing up another post for it. It’s always nice to know what people are reading and enjoying your work, so a big thank you to Charlotte and Ami for nominating me!
The Sunshine Blogger Award is a peer recognition award that is passed around the blogging community, and it’s given to those who inspire creativity and positivity. What do you enjoy most about blogging?
Just the fact that the whole thing is mine and that I have complete control over how I maintain it – I decide what content I post, how and when I write it, and I make the decisions. Is that selfish? It’s basically having that freedom – the only thing missing is having it as a full time job!
Why did you start your blog?
I’ve tried a number of times over the years to write a blog and keep up with it, but most attempts have been unsuccessful. Since I started working as a content writer for a digital media company, I’ve realised how much I really enjoy writing and how I’d like to do it for a career, so I’ve decided to do things properly and really commit this time.
Why did you name your blog what you did?
Honestly? I don’t really know. I asked a few friends on ideas for a blog title before I set it up, and the most common response would be “what’s it about?” Of course at the time I wasn’t really sure of my niche, and to be honest I’m still not, but when my friend said that “it should definitely have ‘sassy’ in the title,” I kind of worked from that.
What’s the best piece of advice you could give to someone who’s going to start blogging?
Twitter is your friend! I’ve found it the best place to share my blog and to engage with the blogging community.
What is your favourite quote?
I have two. The first is from Stephen Hawking: “However difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at.” Think second is from Jim Carrey: “You can fail at something you don’t want. So you might as well take a chance doing what you love.”
Favourite TV show?
Definitely Frasier. It’s witty, it’s lighthearted, and it’s damn funny. I still quote it as being the first thing that got me interested in psychology.
Where’s your favourite place to travel?
I don’t really travel much, but my favourite place out of where I’ve actually been is Gran Canaria. It’s beaut!
Where is the one place you’d like to travel to?
New York! If I can ever build up the courage to endure a long haul flight, this will be the first place I go.
What is your dream job?
Writing for a living and being my own boss! Or failing that, cat photographer. I’m not fussed.
What’s the biggest goal you have for your blog?
If we’re talking extreme, long term goals, to make enough money out of it where it can be my main source of income. Short term, to increase my followers and to start getting some affiliate links in there.
What is your biggest aspiration?
Professionally, pretty much what I answered in the above question. Personally, to come off of my medication and be in a permanently good place with my OCD.
What are you most thankful for?
My Mum, my husband, my friends, my cat and my baby fur-sister.
What was the best thing to happen to you last week?
I got an article accepted onto a site with a DA of 91 at work last week, I went to DogFest with my Mum and Daisy, and I went out and got hammered with two of my besties.
If you owned a theme park, what would it be called and what sort of rides would you have?
Meowingtons – plenty of cat themed rides and a gin bar.
What’s your superpower?
I’m weirdly good at recognising people’s handwriting and remembering number plates.
What is your favourite accessory?
I love my rings and my Chamilia bracelet. It’s got so many Disney charms!
If you were Prime Minister/President, what would be your first call for action?
Make sure the NHS survives the shitshow this country’s going through right now. Get me talking all political!
What quote do you live by?
“No matter how dark it gets, the sun will rise again” – Meredith Grey.
What is your favourite Disney song?
Under the Sea from The Little Mermaid.
Favourite party song?
Cha Cha Slide is a classic but my bestie and I lose our shit when Shake it Off comes on at any event.
On what platform, did you have your first social media account? (Bebo, MySpace, etc)
Bebo, followed closely by MySpace.
What is your favourite stationery item?
I know I used this excuse last time, but I still feel like a newbie within the blogger community so I struggled to come up with a full 11 people, let alone double that – especially without nominating someone who I’ve nominated before! With that in mind, here are 9 fabulous bloggers that I’ve been loving recently. Make sure you check them out and give them some love!
Ruth (Autistic Fit Chick)
Liz (Anxiety and Liz)
Kirsty (Love Popcorn)
Lauren (Bournemouth Girl)
Chloe (Writing the Blues Away)
Kirsty (As Told By Kirsty)
Naomi (Meditative Owl)
