So this week I was given a well needed boost when I was nominated for the Blogger Recognition Award. The nomination came from the lovely Bluehill Blogger, who writes a little bit of everything. From funny and relatable posts (I especially love her Struggles of Wearing Glasses post!) to lifestyle advice and experiences, she covers a whole variety of topics, along with some wonderful poems. Definitely go and check out her blog! So thank you so much Bluehill Blogger, it really means a lot to be nominated!
What is The Blogger Recognition Award?
The Blogger Recognition Award is created by bloggers for bloggers. It’s a way of giving them recognition for their work and to promote them to the blogging community.
The Rules
- Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
- Write a post on your site displaying the award and why you started your blog.
- Write two pieces of advice for new bloggers.
- Nominate and notify 15 more bloggers.

Why I Started Blogging
I’ve tried many times in the past to start a blog, but I’ve failed at it for one reason or another. Usually because I’ve not had the time to keep up with it, I’ve ran out of ideas for content, or I’ve compared it to someone else’s I’ve seen that’s ten times better.
Last year I began a job working for a digital media company. While it started off being heavily admin based, I soon started writing content and learning more about SEO, and I soon realised that I was really enjoying it. So, armed with a little more knowledge, I started up my blog in January this year, and I took it seriously. I paid for the domain name, I wrote up a content plan and read countless other blogs for tips. Since starting my job, I’ve realised that, after years of trying to figure out what the hell I want to do with my life, I want to write.
Ultimately, making a living out of my blog and working for myself is the dream, although I have a long, long way ahead of me if I’m even going to consider that as an option. For now, I’m just enjoying putting the time and effort into my blog and seeing it grow. Anything else that comes is a bonus.
Advice for New Bloggers
Don’t Compare Yourself
Comparing yourself to other bloggers is not healthy. Just because someone else’s blog has a bigger following than yours or better stats, it doesn’t instantly mean that yours is crap and not worth doing. Instead of comparing yourself to other bloggers, learn from them. The blogging community I’ve found is a wonderfully supportive place, and a lot of the time people will give you pointers if you ask for them.
Schedule Your Posts
Scheduling your posts takes out the stress of coming up with a new idea each week (or however often you want to post). We all go through writers’ block, but a lot of us also go through phases where we’ve just got so much to write about it’s a shame when we have to stop and move on to the next task. If you’ve got a whole bundle of ideas, set aside some time to write out a few posts that you can keep in the bank and schedule for when you’re struggling to come up with something. Getting posts all prepared and scheduled means you can stay a week or two ahead of the game when it comes to creating your content, which ultimately takes the pressure off!
Nominations
As usual, I’m rubbish at nominating others on these things, because half the time they will have already done them (because they’re already awesome). I’m not sure I’ll make the 15 without nominating someone that’s already done this, so if you have already been nominated, I apologise!
