My Top Ten Disney Songs

Ever since I was a child, I have been obsessed with Disney. To be honest, I think it’s only gotten worse as I’ve got older, especially when it comes to the films. As an adult you appreciate things so much more – the animation, the story, the message, but most importantly, the soundtrack. As a child I don’t think you truly appreciate the magic of a Disney soundtrack. So, to pay homage to the musical marvel that is the Disney soundtrack back catalogue, today’s post is all about my favourite tracks from the movies.

Under the Sea – The Little Mermaid

Not going to lie, I didn’t appreciate this song until I was a grown ass adult. It has nothing to do with the message the song has or anything like that, but just the fact that it’s a goddamn bop. It’s a song that always cheers me up and when you pair it with the sequence in the movie itself, the visuals are just stunning. The colour! It’s just such an upbeat and happy song, and whenever I hear it, I can’t help but smile.

I See the Light – Tangled

I’ll admit – I didn’t actually see Tangled until 4 years after it came out. If it’s any consolation, I was angry at myself for not watching it sooner. It’s AMAZING. I remember seeing the whole sequence for the first time, when they’re in the boat looking at all the lanterns and I genuinely cried. It was so pretty to watch. The song itself just goes so well and whenever I hear it, it just reminds me of the first time I watched it. Not only that, but I tried on the Rapunzel themed dress when I went shopping for my wedding dress, and the lady in the shop put this on while I was doing it, so I think that it reminds me of that too.

Stand Out – A Goofy Movie

This is one of the more underrated Disney songs, but I’ve always loved it! I really liked A Goofy Movie as a kid – it was funny, it had a nice message, and the soundtrack was the nuts. If only Powerline was a real popstar. At the time when you first hear this, you’re just like “OH MY GOD THIS IS SO COOL” but as an adult, you realise that the lyrics are great for getting you feeling pumped.

Part of Your World – The Little Mermaid

While as an adult, Under the Sea is probably my favourite song from The Little Mermaid, but if we go back a good few years, it has to be Part of Your World. I don’t know why, but I think it has something to do with the fact that Ariel was always my favourite Disney princess, and this was her song. It just instantly takes me back to 6 year old me watching The Little Mermaid and desperately wishing I was Ariel.

Kiss the Girl – The Little Mermaid

I promise, this is the last song from The Little Mermaid that’s part of my list. Kiss the Girl again is a song I didn’t really appreciate properly until I was an adult. It’s now one of my favourite Disney songs because it’s romantic, and I love the whole sequence that features in the movie. Plus, a shout out to Peter Andre, who did a cover version of it in 1997. This was the year that I first saw The Little Mermaid at the cinema, so I’m putting that down to the reason why I love this song so much.

I Won’t Say I’m In Love – Hercules

I didn’t realise that Hercules was one of the more underrated Disney movies. I bloody loved it! NGL, as a child, I had a major crush on Hercules. Ah, the days of having crushes on animated cartoon characters. Anyway, when it first came out I was obsessed with this movie, and Meg essentially became my favourite Disney princess (even though she wasn’t actually a princess) (also, soz Ariel). This song was definitely my favourite part of the whole movie, and I have video proof of 6 year old me watching it and living her best life.

Hakuna Matata – The Lion King

I don’t think any list is complete without an addition from The Lion King. The Lion King has some absolute belters when it comes to songs, and of course, I appreciate the hell out of all of them. I think when it comes to this classic though, my song of choice has to be Hakuna Matata. I think everyone sees it as that well needed comic relief in the movie after that Mufasa scene, which is why I think this is a perfect cheer up song!

Let It Go – Frozen

I know this is quite controversial, but Let It Go will always be one of my favourite Disney songs. For me this is a song that’s about accepting who you are and not giving a crap – apt, right? Plus, Idina Menzel is just AMAZING.

Good Company – Oliver & Company

Am I the only one that just bawls their eyes out watching this part of the movie? I think this song strikes a chord with anyone that’s ever owned a pet. Not gonna lie, drunk me has sung this a few times to Tilly. I regret nothing.

I’ll Make a Man Out of You – Mulan

I never really enjoyed Mulan much when I was a kid, but the older I got the more I started to like it. While it’s not one of my favourite Disney movies, you can’t deny that it’s one of Disney’s more underrated films. This song just has that classic movie montage feel to it, and you’re just rooting for Mulan the whole way through. When she finally climbs to the top of that pole thing and gets the arrow…YAAASS GIRL. Also, Captain Shang is just BAE.

Brb just going to go listen to these on repeat for a few days.
