The Hallotober Bloggers Tag

If you’ve been reading my blog from the start, you’ll know that I bloody love a blogger tag. I was recently nominated by Tom at The Doubting Thomas for the “Hallotober” Blogger Tag for the first time, and I’m rather excited to be writing what’s probably my first ever Halloween themed blog!

The Questions

1: What’s your favourite thing about October?

It’s not very Halloween-y, but October is the month I got married, so there’s always a lot of focus around our wedding anniversary. I also quite enjoy the cute little Halloween knick knacks that I can sneak into various areas of my house!

2: Are you a big celebrator of Halloween?

I hate to disappoint you, but I’m not the biggest celebrator of Halloween. I’m a bit of a dick when it comes to trick or treaters as I’m the one who locks the door, shuts the curtains and turns the lights off while eating the sweets I reluctantly bought “just in case.” I do however love the autumnal feel Halloween brings with it and like I said, I quite enjoy the cute little themed knick knacks.

3: What’s your favourite horror movie?

I’m not much of a horror film fan, especially with films featuring any sort of paranormal-type stuff or possessed dolls. The last horror film we watched was the original Carrie a couple of years ago on Halloween, just showing how with the times we are!

4: Would you rather a cosy night in watching horrors or a big night out in costume?

I love the sound of a big night out in costume – I used to love fancy dress parties! Having said that though, a cosy night in sounds like a good idea too – although I’d probably settle for watching a few episodes of Sabrina the Teenage Witch rather than any horror films!

5: Which has been your most favourite costume to date?

I quite liked my most recent costume – we went to a murder mystery fairytale themed Halloween party at a friend’s house. Liam was a blind mouse and I was Bo Peep – probably the most effort both of us made for Halloween in years!

6: Bobbing for apples or pin the hat on the witch?

Pin the hat on the witch – bobbing for apples has never appealed to me for obvious reasons but now it sounds like a massive covid nightmare.

7: How do you celebrate Halloween?

It depends year on year – last year we did the murder mystery party, and the year before that we had a night out at the pub. Lillie and I dressed as cats and we got horrifically shit faced – this was also the night where I lost my phone and my cards. I still have flashbacks.

8: What’s your least favourite horror?

I don’t really have one as I’m not a fan of the genre – although anything involving dolls really shits me up.

9: Do you have a favourite trick or treating memory?

I never really went “proper” trick or treating – it was always pre-arranged with family members and those were the only houses I’d go to. One year that particularly sticks out in my mind was when I was about 5 or 6, my Mum was in hospital with pneumonia and she was there for nearly 2 weeks and obviously was unable to take me trick or treating. Instead though, her partner got me dressed up in my witch’s costume and took me to all of the usual family members houses, and we finished up with a visit to my Mum in hospital. I pity the poor staff and any other patients that saw the sight of a small child in a pound shop witch’s costume! It doesn’t really sound like the happiest of memories but it’s one I still look back on quite fondly – I didn’t really know what was going on as I was so young, but I remember being very worried about Mum and I’d never been apart from her for so long, so going to see her in my full Halloween get-up really cheered me up and I hope that it brought a smile to my Mum’s face too.

10: What’s your favourite thing about Halloween?

I mentioned it before but I really love the autumnal feeling the occasion brings with it. Plus, it’s the last holiday before Christmas!

11: Scary costume or silly costume?

I think a mixture of both is good, although I’ve always loved the idea of doing full Halloween makeup with fake blood and all that.

12: What’s your favourite Halloween candy?

I love the Swizzels chewy sweets – I buy a bag every year!

13: So, how do you feel about clowns?

Absolutely hate them. They’re not funny and they generally creep me out.

In terms of my own nominations, because I’ve scheduled this post a couple of weeks in advance I’m quite reluctant to list anyone in case they will have been nominated already, but please do feel free to do the challenge yourself if you want! For my question 13, I’ll change it to “What’s your biggest fear?” Happy Halloween!

  1. I love last year’s costume! 😆 I’m not a big Halloween fan but I still enjoy carving a pumpkin! Going to attempt a soup from the insides – I’ll probably regret this 😆xx
